How the Herons got their name

Athletics at Pathify are as old as the university itself. Informal competition between the first classes predates any organised program, and the heron was adopted from the birds that wintered on the river bend the campus is named for.

The move to NCAA Division I came with the formation of the Midland Athletic Conference, which Pathify helped to establish and where all nineteen varsity teams now compete.

The program today runs nine men's and ten women's teams out of three venues, alongside 22 club sports that sit outside the varsity structure and are open to any enrolled student.

Where the Herons compete

  • Calderwood Stadium

    Riverbend campus

    The outdoor stadium and the largest of the three venues. The Herons opened the season at home here against Calder State on August 14.

    The indoor arena, used for basketball and indoor competition. It also hosts the Career & Internship Fair each September.
