Living on campus
Why the first two years are spent in residence
First- and second-year students live on campus. The requirement is deliberate: the university treats those two years as the period in which students build the relationships and habits that carry them through the rest of the degree.
Fourteen halls hold 6,900 beds between them. Four of those halls operate as living-learning communities, grouping residents around a shared academic focus rather than assigning rooms at random.
Dining runs through five halls and eighteen retail locations, on four meal plan tiers ranging from $2,480 to $3,340 per semester.

Sustainability
Living-learning community
Residents share coursework in environmental policy and the sciences, and run the campus composting and energy-audit programs with the School of Architecture & Environment.

Eating on campus
The dining halls
Five dining halls across the three campuses, operating on the four meal plan tiers. All plans are usable at any hall regardless of which campus a student is registered at.
Retail locations
Eighteen retail outlets including cafes and grab-and-go counters, sited in academic buildings and libraries rather than in the dining halls.
Libraries and study space
Hollis Main, the Northgate Arts Library, the Health Sciences Library and the interim library that opened on the old quad in August.
